HAMR INC.

The Uber for Movers

How we solved tomorrow’s transportation needs.

HAMR is an app for both iOS and Android that allows users to become service providers to get moving trucks and use it for a moving service within the app. It also allows customer users looking for assistance in large-scale moving to request services from the providers within the app.

Service providers can sign up and choose specific vehicles (mostly large trucks) to provide a large-scale moving service to the customer users. Customer users can sign up and order a large-scale transportation service from the service providers. All activity is tracked in real-time and provides constant updates to the customer along with one on one chat.

I have divided this case study into 3 parts. The first part that you see below is the “get estimate” section of the app. This is when either a customer user or a driver service provider first opens the app, but is not yet ready to commit to signing up. This user can easily browse the services and get a rough estimate on a particular service(s) based on the load amount, weight of the load, where and when. In this example, we used a customer user to illustrate this idea, but it would be a similar experience if a driver user used it too. Let’s get started.

A little background.

Before I started working on the HAMR app, I was told it had already been attempted by other development teams a few times before it landed on my lap. The biggest issue of why it didn’t work previously was simply due to a design problem or lack-there-of. Any complex ideas that are positioned to scale quickly cannot go straight to development without throughly going through the necessary steps needed to get there. The main one being the design process itself. Having a “discovery” session and a “defining” session are some of the initial steps that will lead to a solid user story, which will then initiate the rapid wireframing/prototying of the app. Only from here can we truly find the product’s potential. One must properly evaluate the product and their users first. A deeper dive into a user-centered design process was a crucial step for this product to achieve its goals. Simplifying the major complexities of large-scale moving through an app can be a challenging task, but if done properly the execution will say it all. In this case study, I will walk you through my thought process based on research and validated ideas - and how this product arrived at this design conclusion and became a success.

Accessing the app as a driver user.

After the driver user is done browsing the app on our “Get Estimate” feature (which is essentially the landing page for new unregistered users) they can start the simple registration process. From here, he/she can read the 3 on-boarding screens then input his/her phone number to register a one time registration code then the user is good to go.
